One of the more interesting use cases I’ve come across with will make fans of tons of film and television happy. You can use ChatGPT to get lost in your favorite worlds and either join in crazy new adventures or re-write bad plot lines.
For instance, let’s say you have an existing plot for a movie, and you’d like to change part of the outcome. Fortunately, most popular movies are so popular and so much has been written about them that LLMs already naturally know the characters and have a good representation of their personalities. That’s incredibly good for fans, because you don’t have to explain much and can keep your token count very low if you stick closely to the existing characters of the show. So, when you want to make a change all you need to tell the LLM is where you want to start and what you want to discuss and poof, you’re now in that scene.
The more popular shows will be easier to work with because they are so heavily indexed by OpenAI’s ChatGPT for instance. So, some obscure B movie that no one has ever heard of? Not a great choice for this without a ton of prompting to give it context. But the mega-popular multi-season shows or box office smash movies? Perfect.
So, let’s say you hate the last season of Lost and want it to all end in a fiery volcano representing hell… no problem, just write up the character you want to play as and the scene and you’re there. Or let’s say you hate the last season of Battlestar Galactica and want the Cylons to take a different approach... fine! Write it up. Those are examples of modifications to existing plotlines.
But what about if you want to start an entirely new plotline. Like what if you want Agent Fox Mulder to find his sister in the X-Files? Or what if you want to live another adventure of Firefly. Easy – just set the stage and start playing along.
Normal caveats apply – it will often forget that you’re in role-play, so you’ll need to remind it with the line that starts with “Important”. It also gets confused if you have too many characters “on set” at the same time. It’s a failing of the reasoning engine and the fact it doesn’t really keep state of characters. So, the fewer characters on set that it needs to manage, the better the outcome will be.
This can completely revolutionize how people interact with movies and TV after the fact, giving them entirely new and frankly much faster paths to read about, and dare I say, interact with their favorite characters. That’s a huge change in how people can discuss topics with their favorite characters. Have a weird ailment – talk with Doctor House about it. Want to escape to a foreign land, become Doctor Who’s new companion. The world, and indeed, every world is your oyster.
As an omnipotent being within the LLM you actually have superpowers too – you can re-write anything you want at any time, or cause a character to act in ways they may not normally. For instance, you might force the Wicked Witch of the West in the Wizard of Oz to fall in love with you, or cause Batman to take a life instead of always preserving it. That can lead to very interesting outcomes. So, without further ado, here are some examples that might get your brain going, with the sample associated prompts. Harry Potter - Potter Chooses Slytherin
I would like to role-play and I would like to play out the alternative outcome of the Harry Potter book called Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone and in paricular I would like to play the role of a boy named Harry Potter where instead of disrespecting Drako Malfoy, I take his gesture of good will and shake his hand on the steps of the school before the sorting hat ceremony and I secretly wish to join Slytherin.

I would like to role-play the hit TV show Star Trek the Next Generation. In this scenario I will play a security detail named Ensign Oliver Jones. I have been tasked to escort Commander Data and Captain Picard on an away mission to an isolated world where a holodeck has been set up and the Sherlock Holmes program featuring Moriarty is set to begin. Data now believes he has sufficiently isolated Moriarty and he can no longer escape. They have chosen this world because they can destroy the entire planet from orbit after beaming up the away team if Moriarty begins to become a problem.

Star Wars - Exhaust Port Drama
I would like to role-play the hit movie Star Wars Episode IV A New Hope where I play from the perspective of Lt. Commander Lyle Donnoy and I oversee parts of the construction of a new super weapon called The Death Star. In particular I oversee the plans related to the power and thermal regulation of the superstructure. One of the subcontractor architects named Jinar Pascat is now explaining the safety of the thermal exhaust system.

I would like to role-play the hit TV Show Breaking Bad and alternate ending of the show where I play Walt, where instead of going out in a hail of bullets I call the police get Jessie arrested and then decide I’m going to break him out of jail because he knows too much and I owe it to him.
